Gwent Youth Band Contest
2006 |
28th January 2006
The Junior Band
took part in the Gwent Youth Band Festival today and although he band did not
finish in the prizes the performance was enjoyed and praised by adjudicator and
audience.
The programme
included Penny Dutson playing Ian McKenzie's Ballad with Variation as well as an
arrangement of Amazing grace.
The Adjudicator,
Mr Steven Pritchard-Jones had this to say about the performance:
Circus March
Good tempo set.
The band is well balanced and a good attempt is made at the expression
markings.
Ballad with
Variation
Confident start.
Soloist plays with confidence and with a good tone. At times the band is
a little too loud and the style could be more legato. Soloist plays very
well. Well done.
Nightcap
Great start -
good style and an excellent 'mp'. Well done percussion. You play
all the dynamics and this creates contrast.
Amazing Grace
Not together at
start and the style should be legato. (A) well done solo cornet. (C)
accompaniment a little too loud. (E) Good sounds heard here.
Circus Suite
Good Fanfare
style. (A) The music has drive and spirit. This is really good.
A good
performance today. A well constructed programme and enjoyed by both the band
and the audience. Well done cornet soloist.
