Alun Hathaway resigns as MD of Blaenavon Town Band

Preparations for the Welsh Regional Contest in Swansea on the 17h March hit a major setback when Musical Director, Alun Hathaway, resigned for personal reasons with immediate effect.  The Band had been making excellent progress on the test piece and both the Band and Alun were looking forward to the contest.  However, the resignation on Saturday 25th February means that the band has drafted in a very good friend of the band, Mr Andrew Jones.

The band has also been able to secure Mr Brian Buckley for 2 rehearsals before the contest.  The band would like to thank Brian, Andrew and Mr Eric Powell who have been good enough to help the band.

The remaining rehearsals for the Regional Contest are as follows:

• Monday 5th March, 7.00 - 9.00pm, Mr Brian Buckley

• Wednesday 7th March, 7.30 - 9.30pm, Mr Andrew Jones

• Sunday 11th March, 10.45am - 1.00pm, Mr Andrew Jones

• Monday 12th March, 7.00 - 9.00pm, Mr Brian Buckley

• Wednesday 14th March, 7.30 - 9.30pm, Mr Andrew Jones

• Friday 16th March, 7.30 - 9.30pm, Mr Andrew Jones

• Saturday 17th March, Contest Day

In the meantime the band committee is actively looking to appoint a new MD as soon as possible.
