Awards Night

Saturday February 28th  2009

The Pontypool Golf Club was the venue for this years Annual Dinner and Awards Night.  It was night to review a memorable year for the band.  Numerous Contest wins, appearance at the National Finals and Promotion to First Section locally and Second Section Nationally.

The First Award was for the Conductors Most Improved Player of the Year was awarded to Anna Jones who was playing Second Cornet last year and is now playing Solo Cornet.

Anna is a tremendous asset to the band and regularly helps with the learner groups.

The second award was the Bill Baldock Memorial Cup for the Conductors player of the year.  MD Lyndon Price awarded this to a player who has improved steadily over the last 12 months and has shown that he realy works hard at home and in the bandroom.  The award, presented by Joan Baldock, went to Solo Trombone player Darryl Preece.

The Gareth Protherough Memorial Trophy for Bandperson of the year is voted for by members of the band.  This year the award went to Bass Trombone player Martin Adams.  Martin was unable to attend the Dinner due to illness.  All out thoughts and best wishes are with Martin and we all hope for a swift recovery.  The award was presented by Linfa Protherough and accepted by Trevor Sanders on Martins behalf.

There was also a special award from Lyndon for the Section who had been the most entertaining during the year. This was  presented to the Tenor Ladies; Joanne, Tianna, Joanne and Jane.

There was another special award to the bands Maintenance Man Alan Styles who has installed some much needed shelving in the band room as well as performing regular maintenance.  Alan was awarded with a new polo shirts that will be on sale shortly.

The Junior Band Awards will take place on Monday 16th March in he Bandroom.
