Burry port Contest Preview

Tomorrow the Band travels to West Wales for the WWBBA Contest which this year is being held at the Memorial Hall Burry Port.  This is one of the three contest that make up the Welsh Championship, the others being Ebbw Vale in May and Treorchy in November.  Having finished last at Ebbw Vale it is unlikely that the Band will be in contention for honours this year but that does not mean that the Band will not be hoping for a result this weekend.

There are rumours that the turnout of bands will be low.  This is a shame as these contests are usually well run and this year the adjudicator (for Second Section at Least) is Jim Davies.  However, because the prize money is not much, the top Welsh don't go to these contests and the current contest calendar is very crowded at this time of year it is hardly surprising that there will be fewer bands this year.

Blaenavon Town will be directed once again by Gareth Ritter who has been working his socks off with the band having to prepare the test piece in just 2 weeks following the Eisteddfod and Wychaven contests.  The Band will be missing 2 regulars from the Bass Section with Andrew Thornton sunning himself in France and John Ford recovering from a hip operation.

Last year, when the contest was held in Ammanford, the Band came 1st which was a memorable result in a competitive contest.  We are hoping for a similar result this time.
