Friday 25th August 2006 Junior Band Summer Course and Concert This years Junior Band Summer course took place on Thursday and Friday this week. The Course was led by the Junior Band Tutor, Evan Smith with help from Anna Browne. After two days of intensive rehearsal, a concert was held in the band room for parents and family. There was also a barbeque for players and audience.
The course was a big success and the young players got to grips with some quite difficult music, including an arrangement of Sousa's 'Liberty Bell' and a number of pieces by Allan Pring that were new to the players. Some regular members of the Junior were on holiday during the course, so some deft manipulation of the scoring was required to ensure that the all the parts were covered. This did not detract from what was a very success concert on Friday evening. The Bandhall was full of Mums, Dads, Nan's, Bamp's and other relatives to hear the culmination of 2 days work. The concert opened with the march 'Red Alert' followed by 'Nightcap'. Then came 'Happy Rag' and 'Tango'. 'Liberty Bell', 'Cool Calypso' and 'Tongue Twister' were next. 'Beetle Drive' was a popular number with an arrangement from Handel's 'Fireworks Music' to finish. Some of the young musicians who attended the course are show above. |
