 Blaenavon Town Band

Summer School 2009 a Great Success

Thursday 27th August 2009

This years Junior Band Summer culminated in a very successful concert at the Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall last night.  The Summer School was attended by 21 musicians from 5 years old upwards and ran from Monday until Wednesday using the facilities at the Workmen’s Hall.

The programme included some old and new music as well as a performance of Mini March by the beginners group many of whom had only been playing for a few months.

The concert included the March ‘Portsmouth’ and Bandstand Boogie.  The Lady Mayoress and Deputy Mayor of Blaenavon were both in attendance and were very impressed with the standard and the enthusiasm of the young players.

The Summer School was organised by Youth Band Tutor Evan Smith with lots of help from the Band Management.  Tutors on the Summer School were Sharon James, Anna Jones and David Langley.  The band were also very fortunate to have Lana Tingay from Gwent Music Support who helped make the summer school such a success.

Senior Band Members Norman Nicholas, Tiana Priest and Joanne Knight were also on hand to help the young players.

The Junior Band is now having a short break before we being rehearsals again on Thursday 3rd September.
