Preparations for Swansea

Friday 9th March 2007

Preparations for the Welsh Regional Contest

The band is in the thick of rehearsals for the Welsh Regional Contest in Swansea on March 17th.  The test piece is Prelude and Jubilate by Darrol Barry.  The Prelude was written for the 10th Anniversary of Ensembe de Cuivres d'Anjou in Switzerland in 2001.  The Jubilate was added recently so the work could be used as a Test Piece.

The piece is full of time and temp changes and all sections of the band have their work cut out just counting bars rest!  There is the standard lyrical slow section with a lovely Cornet solo. There is also the obligatory 'big' tune which crops up a couple of times.

The Band is being directed by Mr Andrew Jones who will conduct at the Contest.  We have also be lucky to have Mr Brian Buckley take 2 rehearsals.  The band is responding well to Andrew and the recent rehearsals have seen a marked improvement in performance.

We have 5 more rehearsals in which to tidy up the loose ends and ensure we perform to our best abilities.
