 Blaenavon Town Band

5th at Tredegar but 1st in Weston

Sunday 18th May 2008

Fund Raising for Harrogate Finals hits £1,700

There was disappointment after a poor performance of Dark Side of the Moon at Tredegar Leisure Centre.  A decent second half could not make up for an untidy start that was not together and out of tune. The result reflected this as the Band Finished 5th out of 7.

There was some joy at Tredegar however as the Junior Band conducted on this occasion by Lyndon Price were awarded a Gold Certificate for their performance of Fanfare for an Occasion, Medieval Games, Tromba Tango and Pots 'n' Pans.

Like last year, a very disappointing result at the SEWBBA Contest was wiped away with a stunning performance at the Weston-Super-Mare contest.  The same piece but a different band determined to make amends for the day before.  It was a performance that won the Third Section Contest by 4 clear points and had the Adjudicator, Derek Broadbent, in raptures.

The band has been helped this weekend by Steve Nicholas on Euphonium.  Regular Euph, Tracey Dredge has been unwell for several months and Steve has stepped in to help out.  As usual with new players, Steve was caught on camera kissing a sheep's bum!
