1st April 2006 Over ninety competitors in 10 Classes from 6 Bands in Gwent competed at the Newport YMCA in the Greater Gwent Solo and Quartet Contest today (and that's no fooling!). Mixed results, with none of Blaenavons competitors being placed in the Solo categories but a well earned Second Place in the Under 15 Quartets. Rhys Langley got the day started in the Slow Melody 11 and Under Class and was followed by Jessica Whiting. Daniel Cox and David Langley competed in the 12 and 13 Slow Melody Class. Finally Penny Dutson took part in the Slow Melody 16 to 18. Adjudicators, Gavin Saynor and Dr Robert Childs gave some very good advice to all competitors with specific comments for each player.
The performance got off to a ropey start but recovered well and overall it was very pleasing show. The adjudicators were impressed awarding 74 points and second place. Well done to all the competitors for working hard and having the courage to stand up and play in front of an audience.
