A decent performance, but not without errors, of Gilbert Vinter's Entertainments earned Blaenavon Town Band fourth place at Welsh Regional Contest under the direction of Alun Hathaway. From a late draw (number 8) the band took to the stage at around 1:15pm. The first movement, Caprice, was a bit disappointing as the band didn't quite get to grips with the 'lively' acoustics of the Branqwn Hall. The second movement was far better. Arran Price made an excellent start on Principal Cornet and he band really played well bringing out the dynamic and rhythmic contrasts. The March was Ok but some rather loose playing took the edge off the performance. However, the overall performance was pretty good on a very tough test piece. MD Alun Hathaway was very pleased with the saying that he could not ask more from the players. After the results it was a quick walk to the Bay View for a bite to eat and a shed full of beer and seeing Wales v France, an exciting match but ultimately disappointing. Fourth place does put us in a position to challenge for promotion next year and at least staves off any serious worries about relegation. It is a step forward for the band who have not had the best of luck at Swansea in recent years. Full results of the third section:
