Second Section Winners in Treorchy Saturday 15th November 2008
Playing Dimensions by Peter Graham the band was drawn 6th out of 7 bands. Adjudicator Stan Lyppeatt had not been a big fan of Blaenavon Town Band in previous encounters placing us last but one on our last two encounters. However, he made up for this today. The result in Treorchy means that the Band also won the Second Section Champion Band of Wales in a very close contest between Crosskeys, GCG, Ynyshir and ourselves. This also means that we are now promoted to First Section (locally) for the first time in the bands history. This will be a huge challenge for the band and MD Lyndon Price but a challenge that MD and Band will relish.
The Fred Western Soloist Award has given to Euphonium Player Evan Smith who was ably assisted by Steve Nicholas. A big thank you has to go to MD Lyndon Price who only had 4 rehearsals to get the test piece into shape. Lyndon has been with the band for nearly a year now and has demonstrated his enthusiasm and musical expertise in spades. Adjudicators Remarks Dimensions
