Saturday 24th June 2006 World Heritage Day and Band Barbeque The day was hot and sunny and the town was packed. Over 4,000 people turned out to watch and take part in the biggest World Heritage Day in Blaenavon so far. The band played their part by leading the procession down through town and then (wait for it) back up the hill! The Old Stalwarts of Slaidburn and Westward Ho! where performed several times. By the time we finished in the Library Car Park the sweat was pouring and every body was ready for a drink. Usually on World Heritage Day the band head home or enjoy the other entertainment. This year however, we had something planned. A barbeque and karaoke in the band room. Chairman Lynn Davies was in charge of the charcoal and the burgers, bangers and chops were provided by Morris Butchers.
The musical talents of band members and friends were shown off with the highlight being a magnificent rendition of 'Delilah' by Jane Davies. (I bet Tom Jones is cacking himself!). Other highlights included YMCA performed with great aplomb by David 'Cool Dude' Langley and and fine performance from Martin 'The Voice' Adams. |
